Duke Blue Devils Ranked Top Ten in Preseason!

In both the AP and the ESPN/USAToday polls Duke is ranked in the top ten.

In the AP they are ranked 9th and the ESPN/USAToday they are ranked 8th.

This Duke team is different then other Duke teams, because the focus is going to be more on their big men then on their guards.  Coach K made a special effort on recruiting big men this past off season.  The reason was that Duke was hurt in this area too many times and it showed up the most in the NCAA’s.

This time the Blue Devils will not be caught lacking powerful big men who can bang the boards as well as shoot the ball from the outside. This is a Duke team that will once it finds it’s footing will push a lot of people around.  Finally a Duke team with a kind of balance that has not been seen in a very long time.

We at Duke-Redick.com see a team that is going places this year and for the foreseeable future.

Singler Named AP Preseason All American

Yes he has been named to Naismith Watch List as well as AP Pre Season All American as well and also pre season ACC Player of the Year.

Now if he can improve on what he did last year then all of this hype fits. The sky is the limit for him.

The article below is from GoDuke.

“Singler Named to AP Preseason All-America Team
11/02/2009

DURHAM, N.C. - Junior Kyle Singler, the preseason ACC Player of the Year, was named to the Associated Press’ preseason All-America team on Monday. Notre Dame’s Luke Harangody, Kansas teammates Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins and Kentucky’s Patrick Patterson joined Singler on the team.

Singler is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he averaged 16.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while garnering second team All-ACC and honorable mention AP All-America honors. The Medford, Ore., native also claimed ACC All-Tournament team accolades after helping guide Duke to its eighth conference championship in the last 11 years.

Singler has reached double figures in scoring in 59 of 71 career games played and ranks 53rd at Duke with 1,060 career points. Last season, he became just the sixth player in school history to top the 1,000-point plateau as a sophomore.

Harangody was the top vote-getter with 57 votes from the 65-member national media panel, while Aldrich and Collins are the first teammates chosen to the preseason team since Duke’s J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams in 2005-06.”

Are You Ready For Basketball!!!

Basketball season is upon us and we are ready to see the Duke Blue Devils challenge the rest of the world again. This is a team that has all the pieces to get it done. Coach K just has to mesh the new pieces with the old and this will be the team to beat this year.

————————————————————————————-

The Orlando Magic are ready for prime time after letting go of a couple of players who helped them get to the finals they added players who this time around should get them past everyone and win the Finals this year around. Players like Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson both traded from the Nets. They also picked up Brandon Bass from Dallas and Rick Barnes from Phoenix. Plus they added crafty veteran Jason Williams. All of these pieces equal a team that is even better then last years version.

With all of this JJ Redick is having a great pre-season averaging 12 points and several assists a game and has shown that yes he did improve his game from last year just as he had promised. JJ has worked hard on getting his shot as well as being a floor general for the Magic when on the court. We see great promise for JJ this year with hopefully added playing time as Vince Carters back up as SVG announced as pre-season began.

From the people at JJ Redick and Duke Basketball Fansite we wish the best of luck to JJ Redick and the Orlando Magic.

Best of luck as well to the Duke Blue Devils who we see playing better this year then last.

Gerald Henderson leaving Duke for Draft

Henderson is leaving Duke for the NBA draft skipping his senior year. Henderson though is not hiring an agent just in case he finds that he would do better in college then the NBA. So that door for him as of now is still open, but it looks like he will not be coming back and will stay in the draft as he is being forecast as a first round pick.

Henderson will be missed by everyone at Duke. Coach K seemed ready for him leaving and the team will not suffer from his leaving IMO.

Southern Illinois vs. Duke

This was nice :)

Dawkins to leave Duke for Stanford

Duke associate head coach Johnny Dawkins has accepted the head coaching job at Stanford, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

Dawkins just completed his 11th season on the bench with his college coach, Mike Krzyzewski. Dawkins was in the mix for the Georgetown opening a few years ago when the Hoyas hired John Thompson III and is in charge of player development for the U.S. Olympic team coached by Krzyzewski.

Dawkins will succeed Trent Johnson, who abruptly left for LSU after leading the Cardinal to the Sweet 16. He inherts a team that will lose the Lopez twins, Brook and Robin, to the NBA draft, but will return its primary perimeter players in Mitch Johnson, Lawrence Hill and Anthony Goods, who will all be seniors next season.

King Leaving Duke

Good Luck

ok, seriously, thats not all I have to say. King was/is a great shooter, unfortunately IMO, he never cautioned on the side of error. He was/is quick to pull the trigger even if he’s in no rhythm what-so-ever. There was no place behind the numerous shooting gaurds Duke has. uuummm, did we mention that we’re looking for someone inside yet??

Duke out of 2008 NCAA’s!!!

Duke lost to West Virginia 73-67 in the second round of this year’s NCAA’s. The one thing that Duke needed the most hurt the team in advancing further in the tourney. Without a true post player Duke kept on getting manhandled in the paint. This weakness showed in their near loss to Belmont.

Team Captain DeMarcus Nelson was a no show for Duke this tournament he was a combined 3-17 shooting for the two games he also turned the ball over 6 times in the two games. Nelson may have been the captain, but he did not lead very well as you can all see by his numbers.

Coach K gave his all for this team, battling the flu yet still showing up to coach. Bravo Coach K! Next year we expect you to give just as much as you gave for these two games. We all love you!

Bless You Coach K.

Duke beats Belmont

Duke held on and beat a feisty team from Belmont with the final score being 71-70. Belmont challenged Duke throughout the entire game never giving an inch to Duke. To make things worse for Duke Coach K was battling the flu on the sidelines yet he kept on coaching this team to it’s first win for 2008 NCAA Tournament. Now Duke is on to the second round.

Duke Losses in Semi’s to Clemson

Duke lost 78-74 to Clemson and the right to the finals in the ACC Tournament. Duke just shot around 25% from the three point line killing any chance of advancing.  Singler and Scheyer both forgot to show up for the game Singler was 1-9 and 0-5 from the three point line. Scheyer shot 3-11 and 2-6 from the three point line. Without these two players adding their shots to the team Duke failed to beat Clemson for the first time in a very long time.

Now Duke has to wait for the NCAA Selection Committee to see where they are going to end up and what seed. They will find this out Sunday.
