Well That Sucked Big Time

As much as it pains me to even make this post, I must move forward.
Here’s my take:
Although somewhat irrelevant, that was a pretty pathetic no call on Hansbrough on Scheyer late in the game. Sorry UNC readers, that was foul considering all the calls you guys got in the first half.
Enough of the crying. I’m sure I’ll get to whine a bit more on Monday at work.
Why we lost:
Duke has never shown the physical toughness on defense as long as I’ve been a fan. Thats over 26+ years. What am I talking about? Hell, even in my high school games you Never, and I mean Never let a team come into your house and dunk on you. The dunk by “whomever-it-was” over Paulus is exactly what I’m talking about. Who the hell lets someone dunk on them in such an important game? Duke, thats who. I was taught to go up hard and block the shot. If you fouled oh well, but hell at least made an attempt to stop someone from bullying you around in your gym. You at the very least sent the message that if try that shit again, you’re going down even harder. Duke’s never shown that to me. They don’t protect their turf or their own for that matter. Once I saw that dunk I knew it was over.
Where the hell was Henderson again? He’s my biggest let down on the Devil roster this year. Dribbling it into the hands of Lawson was pretty laughable.
Scheyer should be the sixth man of the year. He shows heart, skill, and tenacity 24/7 when he’s in the game.
Well here’s to looking forward to the tie breaker in the ACC Tourney.

Duke/Carolina Rematch - Another One for the History Books?

I certainly hope so. The rivalry keeps getting better and better. UNC has taken it to the Heels in the wake of Duke lack of recruiting the past year or two. This year Duke got the upper hand in the first match up by taking advantage of Lawson who was out with a sprained ankle.

The chatter around the office has been extremely “pro UNC” where I work at. I’m not sure if they’re just full of confidence because Lawson is back or they’ve simply forgotten what happened the last game. Either way, I can say for sure, there has been a lot of UNC chants which would make a Duke victory that much sweeter.

What I Expect:
After Duke’s warmup game against Virginia, I am feeling a little better about their chances of winning. I was a bit leery as UNC has been playing some solid ball while Duke seemed to be taking a few steps back. I’m looking for a strong game from the Devils from behind the arc as we saw the first game. Solid double teaming of Hansbrough and making sure Lawson doesn’t get his way as he used to. Who knows if he’s even 100%.

JJ plans to be by brothers side for major surgery.

Orlando Magic’s J.J. Redick to visit ailing brother

Brian Schmitz | Sentinel Staff Writer
10:05 PM EST, March 5, 2008

Magic shooting guard J.J Redick will miss Monday night’s game against Atlanta to be with his brother, David, who is undergoing surgery Monday to remove a tumor on his spine. Redick is expected to leave after Saturday’s game in Orlando against the Golden State Warriors. Redick said David Redick, 20, a former tight end at Marshall, will have surgery at Duke University Medical Center.

“He’s a little freaked out,” J.J. said Wednesday before the Magic faced the Washington Wizards. “I’m taking a couple days to be with him and the family.”

J.J. said his brother, who lived with him last season in Orlando, underwent tests after feeling numbness in a calf. “We thought he had a herniated disk — like what I had [J.J. had a back problem before the Magic selected him in the 2006 draft.],” J.J. said. “But it ended up being more than that.”

I know that everyone who visits this site will be praying that David is going to be fine. God Bless everyone in the Redick Family.

My Apologies To Those Who Built Their Night Around A J.J. Redick Appearance

This is an actual e-mail I received just before tip-off Tuesday night of the Magic-Raptors game from a Magic fan. Er, make that a J.J. Redick fan:

Subject: Tuesday game/no JJ

Well I finally thought I was getting something for my $159 league pass upon seeing today’s articles. So I sat down with a nice Merlot. Someone down there owes me a bottle of wine.. and cheese.

Yes, I feel badly about that. (Who knew Merlot went with the Magic?)

As I wrote in Magicbasketblog and Tim Povtak wrote after attending the morning shootaround, it appeared J.J. would receive significant playing time against the Raptors.

Keith Bogans had a painful abdominal strain, and was questionable.

That would have meant J.J. would have backed up Mo Evans.

But the “Mo-gans” tag-team at shooting guard — Mo and Bogans — stayed intact.

Bogans played, although as Coach Stan Van Gundy said, he appeared “uncomfortable.” As usual, Redick sat and didn’t even make a cameo.

We try to give you the most accurate and up-to-date info we can, despite the fact the Magic are not always forthcoming or particularly helpful when it comes to injury news. Might I also suggest that you don’t plan your evening around the chance of J.J. getting into a game.

He’s not going to get any charity from teammates who are fighting for playing time, either.

After the game, Bogans gave me a look when I asked him if he thought about resting. “After what happened to me last season?” he said, referring to his lost season under Brian Hill. And Evans is a free agent-in-waiting.

So, maybe Mo or Bogans can reimburse you for your wine and cheese.

      How about some Mogan David?

“His philosophy and my phillosophy don’t really go together”

Seems as thought some stabs are starting to fly in the frustration, or I’m just looking too much into it. I already agree he needs to get out of Orlando and that Van Gundy is an idiot, but thats me. When it comes from JJ and from Van, its a whole different story.
Here’s the article:
http://www.cfnews13.com/Sports/CentralFloridaSportsReport/2008/3/5/redick_bides_time_on_bench_for_magic.html

“We’ve talked and he’s made it clear that I’m not going to be in the rotation. There’s nothing I can do. Right now I’m just thinking about my future and I’m working for that more so than trying to get in the rotation. I don’t think I’ll be here a long time. I think Stan is going to be here a long time and his philosophy and my phillosophy don’t really go together,” Redick told Hirozawa.

JJ gets ………..by Coach Van Gundy.

Once again JJ gets a dreaded DNP and this was the game he was suppose to get a lot of minutes if were to really believe the Orlando news paper. Well they were wrong. Even though he was hurting SVG wanted Bogans on the court instead of playing JJ. Either JJ needs to traded on the off season or something really big needs to change with the Magic because right now it is really showing that JJ is getting a raw deal with the coach’s with the Magic.

Let the Smack Talking Begin

Well, its begun already. The chit chat that makes UNC/Duke rivalries so much fun. Just today the smack talking has begun at my office. I didn’t even instigate it as one might think because Duke won the last game. Instead UNC is looking to take revenge on their loss to the Devils and ruin a senior night.
I’m actually scared this time around. Duke’s not playing the ball they’re capable of playing and their shots haven’t been falling from afar. In order to beat this UNC team they need all cylinders turning. Not only is this a big rivalry but alot is on the line. ACC and NCAA spots are important.
I think this week I’ll be tuning into 610 am (here in Charlotte) to listen to the Mac Attack to find out whats on the minds of those foes we call “heels”.

J.J. Redick expected to see significant playing time tonight!!!

Coach K gets his 800th victory

In a nailbiter Duke beats NC State 87-86. Duke struggled on the free throw line again. Duke needs to start improving on the free throw line or their trip to the NCAA’s will be short.

In the mean time Coach K has earned his 800th victory. WTG Coach K!!!
