Coach Bob Knight Steps Down, Effective Immediately

Bobby Knight, coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, has resigned effective immediately. Bobby was best known for making Indiana one of the best basketball programs ever. He’s downfall was he harsh coaching habits that were once looked upon as simply being strict years ago, and no longer being able to coach how he wanted too without having a magnifying glass on top of him from all angles.
The whole timing is very peculiar and will no doubt be “investigated” by the media but at the same time if you know Bobby Knight he really doesn’t care what the media thinks. Jerry Tarkanian mentioned to Rivals.com that he “hopes its not a health related issue” because the resignation comes in the middle of the year.
My best guess. He doesn’t care what people think and he’ll do what Coach Knight wants to do and when to do it. Here’s to hoping he learns to relax a little while life is short.

Orlando Sentinel’s Brian Schmitz writes that its time for Evans or Bogans to hit the road if they plan on keeping JJ Redick around.

Any why not? As Brian points out, if those two aren’t traded, why keep him around. Why not listen to what other teams may be willing to trade to get Redick out of there.

Brian also just posted his thoughts on JJ heading to D-league for a few weeks. I say why bother? Either he’ll play in Orlando or he’ll be traded. D league will do nothing for his confidence, what little there is sitting on the bench, and once he plays well then what? Bring him back up in 2 to 3 weeks so he can hand out towels and water bottles??

Duke Over Miami Easily

Duke defeated Miami 88-73 this past weekend in the only game I’ve been able to see this year. Cameron was of course packed but unfortunately the refs called one of the worst games I’ve seen in quite a while. Not only was this the only trip I will make all year, it had to be the one where the refs were whistle happy.
Paulus hit the deck on a no call and we all know what that means. He flopped right? If he did it was a helluva an acting job because he wasn’t on the floor for some time. Now that the word on the street is that he’s a professional flopper, the refs won’t be calling the serious fouls anymore.
So be it. It really doesn’t matter at this point. The kid is playing with a tremendous amount of shooting confidence going into the big game on Wednesday. He could be the factor that makes the difference in the game.
Singler played well in the second half as well. What really kept the ballgame under 30 points was the horrible free throw shooting in the first half. Duke was 26 of 40 but more like 1 of 20 in the first half (ok I made that last statistic up but statistics show that 87% of statistics are made up on the spot).
In order for Wednesday to play out like Duke wants, all wheels need to be turning and the throttles on high.
