Next Up - The Hokies

VT shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the Devils tonight. Then again this is the ACC. VT’s Jeff Allen was suspended for bumping a referee so he’ll miss the game. Pretty smart since he’s their top rebounder. And I think Paulus will probably want a little revenge on this move from Washington in Cameron last year:

Even though I’m a Dookie, sometimes you have to post a shot like that.

In Dukes corner, I’m expecting a 18 point win. I want to see a solid game from Nolan Smith tonight. He’s next up on Dukes “ball handling” list in the next few years. I also think Scheyer’s going to have a solid 20+ game as well. There’s my prediction! Let’s hear yours?

To All the Miami Hurricane Fans - You Suck

I usually try to keep things somewhat toned down….but what I saw tonight was unbelievable. Miami just played a great first half of basketball against one of the top ranked teams in the nation, UNC. It was tied and close throughout the entire half with Miami giving it their best.
Here comes the crazy part. There was not a single fan standing up and cheering the great game their team was playing against the Heels. Yes, yes, I know the student section is located at the end courts, but damn, give me a break. As the camera panned back and forth as they ran up and down the court everyone was just sitting there.

You guys have the opportunity to root your team on and hand the Heels their second straight loss and everyone was sitting around with their fingers up their butt. Thats just uncalled for.

I can’t even go into what the Cameron Crazies would be doing with a battle like that in the first half. Well, yes I can. They’d be screaming at the top of their lungs pulling for their home team just like they do every night whether its UNC or whether its the Hokies. But watching Miami Hurricane fans sit on their a*s during the first half of a game with this magnitude made me sick. Everyone wants to see you beat the Heels, but I guess your fans don’t.

I’m going to bed now, I can’t stand watching the game knowing what type of fan support that team has. They won’t be receiving my “6th Man” Award anytime soon.

p.s. If the Heels actually lose somehow tonight, my comments still stand!

Josh McRoberts

Alot has always been said about Duke’s lack of NBA players. I don’t think many can quite deny that Elton Brand and Cory Maggette are turning things around.  Not to mention Duhon in Chicago.  One player thats sucking a*s right now is Josh McRoberts. Reports are coming out of the wood work about is lack of enthusiasm in the D league and his drive to get back to the NBA ranks.

I was never fond of McRoberts.  I think it was he’s “cry baby” facial expressions.  Maybe I mistake it for passion, I just don’t know.  But what I do know is he left way too early.  Some have speculated he was pushed out to make make way for more “important” talent.  Who knows? But I’m not looking for an all star performance from Josh anytime soon. Here’s to hoping he changes my mind and makes me a proud Duke fan.

Where Do You Get Your Duke Tickets?

We all know its a pain to get tickets for Duke basketball games, especially if you’re not a student or Alum. But Ebay appears to have quite a few auctions going on most of the time. I’m debating on buying a ticket for one of their games. Feb 2nd. The 9th, or the 23rd. I haven’t seen a game in over 10 years and I can’t wait to get back. I’ve got a college buddy that works over at Washington Inn and Duke Golf Club as the head pro and he can usually get a ticket, at least he hooked me up the last time I went (Duke and UNC nonetheless).

I was in the rafters but it was worth it. Hot, sweazy, and loud as hell. Yup thats Duke and UNC. Anyway, what are your tickets purchasing sites of choice? Stubhub.com? Ticketsnow?

Quick Add: Duke/Carolina tickets are going for 2k on eBay-auction in the right column.

Duke 93 - Clemson 80

Duke extended their win streak versus the Tigers tonight. My prediction of a blowout was fullfilled. Well, ok, maybe not a complete blowout but a “pull away” at the end may be more appropriate. Nelson came through and had a big night with 24 points.
Singler had another strong performance with 17 points and 3 goals came from behind the stripe. All in all the team looked pretty good through the entire game. Everyone was talking about the size disadvantage throughout the internet but Duke’s quickness prevailed. Thats something you haven’t heard alot in the past is their quickness. This year is different and its keeping teams guessing with the “inside out” game their playing.

On a side note, did anyone watch the Carolina game :)

Duke takes on Clemson - JJ Redick Suits Up for Portland

Well, first JJ.  Redick may see some playing time tonight. Thats just a guess because Portland is suppose to suck. Fact of the matter is, they don’t so who knows whats in store tonight for the Magic.  I’m not going to make this blog into a Magic blog, so I’ll leave it at that.

Duke on the other hand takes on Clemson tonight. This could be a tough matchup considering what happened in the Carolina game.  Funny thing is when Duke takes on a weak opponent and blows them out, Carolina haves a tough time. The same holds true in reverse.  If that is the case, Duke will man handle Clemson tonight. Lets hope it is.  I’m looking for big game from Henderson and Singler tonight.  Singler I am beginning to expect great games. Its probably all the hype thats surrounding him at this point.  Henderson has a silky smooth jumper and can jump 10 feet in the air.  He reminds me alot like Robert Brickey when he played. Very athletic and can flat out jump.

I remember attending Duke Basketball camp in the 6th grade and watching pickup games when we were on break.  It was simply amazing to watch him jump and dunk the ball the way he could.  Ok, ok, enough reminiscing, I’ll report back afer tonights game.

JJ Redick Speaks Out About Orlando Sentinel Article

Phillip brought to my attention about Redicks post regarding the Orlando Sentinel article mentioning he was “beyond” playing a few minutes per game for the Magic. He has a good point in some regards. Yeah I also believe the media will twist words at the flick of an adjective to spin a story.  Absolutely no doubt about that.  On the other had I might not have said anything else.

Lets be real honest, JJ Redick shouldn’t be in Orlando. He’s got game period. No matter what the naysayers chit chat about as they pick their nose and criticize every player that comes out of Duke into the NBA, JJ Redick can play. The problem is the team he’s on.   The Magic have way too many guards for him to get a shot.  This is one article or rumor I probably would have kept quiet on and see if there are any teams interested in a trade.  Now’s the time. Not next year or the year after. Now.  Its time to make a move.

Duke 70 - FSU 57

The game was actually alot closer than the score shows. The Devils started to falter down the stretch and I started having flashbacks of last year.  Singler hit a big three which really kicked it into ‘overdrive’ for Duke on a dish from Scheyer.  Nelson came through on some free throws late in the game and the rest is history.

Unfortunately, things started turning ugly near the end as well. Apparently Reid from FSU isn’t too much of a Paulus fan. Paulus hit the deck on the offensive end after getting a bit of a shove from Reid, then on the defensive end Reid took a “swipe” at Paulus as he was lying on the hardwood.  Reid was T’d up and the Devils padded their lead at that point. The fans didn’t appreciate what was going on as debree hit the floor after the free throws and at the end when Coach K shook hands with Hamilton at the end. Both visible on tv but the commentators mentioned nothing about it.  As they probably shouldn’t.

Scheyer had a great night and hopefully he’ll earn a starting spot versus Clemson coming up. Jon finished with 21 points with the majority of those coming in the first half.  One thing you won’t see much out of college basketball is trying to get the rock to a hot player.  Gone are the days of creating plays specifically for the JJ Redicks in the world.  Maybe that will change as Singler molds into the player we expect him to be.

Another Uneventful Night for Redick

The Magic journeyed up to my town, Charlotte, tonight to take on the Bobcats.  As I should be pulling for Charlotte, I’m not. Redick plays for the Magic plus the Cats suck again this year.  Redick rode the pine yet again so nothing eventful to report tonight.  Hell, I’m even ‘time stamping’ this one so it will show up below the Duke post even though I wrote it second. Yikes!
