Josh McRoberts

Alot has always been said about Duke’s lack of NBA players. I don’t think many can quite deny that Elton Brand and Cory Maggette are turning things around.  Not to mention Duhon in Chicago.  One player thats sucking a*s right now is Josh McRoberts. Reports are coming out of the wood work about is lack of enthusiasm in the D league and his drive to get back to the NBA ranks.

I was never fond of McRoberts.  I think it was he’s “cry baby” facial expressions.  Maybe I mistake it for passion, I just don’t know.  But what I do know is he left way too early.  Some have speculated he was pushed out to make make way for more “important” talent.  Who knows? But I’m not looking for an all star performance from Josh anytime soon. Here’s to hoping he changes my mind and makes me a proud Duke fan.

I thought that you should read this considering how much you are putting down JJ’s best bud Josh:

    D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
A lot of players had good games in the D-League on Saturday night, but there was no major stand out or breakthrough performance. Josh McRoberts has been playing solid basketball since being assigned to the Idaho Stampede by the Trail Blazers. McRoberts, who was hampered by a sprained ankle at the start of the season, helped the Stampede extend their season-long win streak to 12 games on Saturday with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting along with four rebounds and four assists.

Hey if he can play the D-League and wants to so be it. Whether they are best buds or not doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to playing hoops in the NBA. Did you check out the link in the article?

    ——
After a disappointing sophomore season, McRoberts turned pro and dropped to Portland with the 37th pick of the second round.

McRoberts, a cheerleader for the Northwest Division’s first-place Portland Trail Blazers, treated his assignment to Idaho like a deployment to Baghdad. Despite playing just three games this season, McRoberts resisted the chance to work on his game in Idaho. To go scoreless Tuesday night in 31 minutes and come back with 2 of 10 shooting that included more airballs and mindless basketball insulted his teammates, coaches and a slew of scouts.

Most believe his two-year guaranteed contract was more a product of his childhood friendship with Greg Oden, than a testament of his talent.

“He’d better figure out fast that Oden will make some new friends,” one D-League coach said.

When a player with a guaranteed contract comes down, he’s an immediate target for players trying to make a name for themselves. They’ll challenge him. On a nightly basis, McRoberts is getting humiliated in the D-League. “If you take away the name, the contract, the school, and just judge him on what you’re seeing: He looked like the worst player in the building,” one Western Conference personnel director said.

Said an Eastern Conference scout, who had watched him regularly at Duke, “If he keeps this up, he will be out of the league in two years. (McRoberts) better wake up before it’s too late for him. It’s a shame because he has some talent.”

That article you quoted from is old because after Josh talked to someone back east who read him the riot act he started to play better. Josh just needed to know that if he didn’t want to play then the Trailblazers were most likely going to get rid of him. He had to act like a man instead of a spoiled brat who was not going to get his way acting out like he was and that he has to get into shape if he really wants to play and show everyone what he can really do.
By the way here is the link to what I posted before sorry that I didn’t post it.

Well that is refreshing to see. Sometimes you need a good kick in the butt to “re-jumpstart” your attitude and where you want to be.

Ive been a Duke fan for about 15 years, and I’ll admit that Josh did seem to be a whiner when things got a little tough. He needs to count his blessings and thank God he has a chance to excel in the NBA. Some would kill to have the chances he’s had, to play the places he’s played, and get a taste of what he’s been a part of.

He’s a great player, but he seems lazy in his approach to applying, studying, and getting ready mentally and physically to play in the NBA. Thats why they sent him to the D-League in the first place, and if he wants to mess that up then thats on him no us.

But, being a Duke fan for so long, I want to see him excel and play the game I know he can play. Im a fan of Josh’s because Im a die-hard Duke fan. No matter what fans say about him, he CAN be great, he just needs to show us he can be and stop being lazy. He should’ve stayed at Duke, but he thought he could play with the big boys.

He’s there, now its time to put up or shut up as far as Im concerned. It’ll take some time, but I look for him to be a good player for Portland. Hopefully he’ll prove a lot of doubters wrong and play to his full potential.
